LEARNING TO SKIP COUNT

SKIP COUNTING(PSRN)

Earlier we discussed about many topics in CLL( Communication Language Literacy) like CVC, Sight Words, Rhyming Words. So I thought it would be good if we discuss PSRN (Problem Solving, Reasoning, and Numeracy).

Today I will talk about, how to introduce skip counting in our class. 

Skip counting is one of the simplest math skills that your child will need to understand before learning how to multiply. 

It makes the foundation strong and helps them understand how multiplication works and breaks in simpler forms.

Skip counting helps not only in multiplication but also in addition and patterns.

By adding a number to itself again and again, the child memorizes the counting pattern.

They will be closer to understanding what you mean when you start showing simple multiplication problems and in later grades, when students are asked to memorize the multiplication tables.

To make the lesson and introduction more interesting we can use Craft Activities . Children get inquisitive and more interested when they see colourful innovative Activities.

The NEWSLETTERS

Hi Folks!

Today we are going to talk about the Newsletters. 

I am sure some of you know the importance of it but for those who don't, I will tell you briefly about it.

Newsletters play an important role in all spheres, be it education, marketing, manufacturing, information technology and so on.

A newsletter is a bulletin issued periodically to the members of a society or an organisation. It can be sent on a monthly, fortnightly or weekly basis to communicate the information regarding any future events that will soon be organised.

In schools, newsletters are very important medium to convey the information to parents.

Teachers interact with kids every day in classrooms, fields, discovery hall, library etc. but cannot meet the parents on daily basis hence sending the newsletters to parents is an excellent idea. They bridge the gap between parents and teachers. Parents get their child’s involvement and progress report on a regular basis of the different activities done in class and school.

Early years school can even send pictures of kids doing activity-based learning and it acts an eye opener for parents.

WALT and WILF

This post is to help teachers to make the teaching and learning process interesting and more effective!
Introducing WALT to Kindergarten 1 and 2 classes to verify that they understand what the objectives are for the day.  

WALT refers to "We are learning to..." And

WILF stands for the phrase "What I am looking for...” 

Reference to WALT and WILF was introduced in primary schools as a way to communicate to children what the learning objectives for a particular lesson are, and what things the teacher will be looking for in a piece of work or during an activity. 

WALT and WILF stem from research by Shirley Clarke,  an academic who works with teachers to improve teaching and learning. Her idea was that if children know what is expected of them in a lesson, they can start to evaluate their own learning and having done so, can try to improve their work and be more successful in their learning.

Today we will be learning about the rhyming words!

What are Rhyming Words?

Rhyming words are two or more words that don’t start with the same sound, but they end with the same sound and sometimes with the same letters.

Some examples of rhyming words are:

 mat, bat, cat, sad, mad, add, bun, fun, run, frog, log, blog.

  Poems and songs often use rhyming to create a rhythm or a repeated pattern of sound, and sometimes poems will also tell a story. By learning these words, students will increase their sentence building and creative writing skills.

Things to remember

Rhyming words have different beginning sounds, but have the same vowel and ending sounds.

 For example: sat/fat/bat/mat, bin/ fin/ tin, snail/ pail/ mail etc.

Hey there!

Today, I am going to share about the bloom's taxonomy and how it can be useful for teachers.

How Bloom’s Taxonomy Is Useful For Teachers 


There are many reasons for the popularity of Bloom’s Taxonomy (that likely deserve an article of their own to explore). For now, it’s clear that many educators love Bloom’s because, it gives them a way to think about their teaching and the subsequent learning of their students.
 As mentioned above, the framework can be used to -

•  Create Assessments

•  Evaluate the complexity of assignments

•  Increase the rigor of a lesson 

•  Simplify an activity to help personalize learning

•  Design a summative assessment

•  Plan project-based learning 

•  Frame  a group discussion, and more.

 It simply provides an order for cognitive behaviours, it can be applied to almost anything. (You can see one example above–one of our teaching materials that combined Bloom’s Taxonomy with common digital tasks.)

I have tried to make it simpler for the teachers to understand all about the Bloom's and putting it together on a presentation. You can download and use it for a reference in your everyday teaching.

STORY WITH SIGHT WORDS 

Children can be made to read the story with sight words for more of practice. They enjoy stories so it's a good idea to re-enforce the sight words in the form of a story. This just an idea, you can make up as many you like. Making them as attractive as you can adding pictures and colours. You can plan as per the words you are going to introduce per lesson.
It is important to remember that in one lesson only Five sight words should be introduced.
